Abstract
Rice husk ash (RHA) is a product of burning rice husk, a waste material from rice production. RHA contain a high amount of amorphous silica, which can be extracted and utilized as valuable additive for geo-refractory bricks. The use of additives in in the production of refractory bricks has gained significant attention in recent years due to their potential to enhance the properties of this materials. One of such materials is rice husk ash (RHA) silicate, which is a byproduct of rice milling.
This review paper explores the extraction and characterization of rice husk ash (RHA) silicate and its application in the production of geo-refractory bricks. Rice Husk, a byproduct of rice milling, is abundant and often discarded, leading to environmental concerns. The transformation of RHA into silicate involves a series of processes, including thermal treatment, hydrothermal, chemical activation and combination of thermal and chemical treatments, which enhance its pozzolanic properties.
The review present various methods for extracting RHA silicate, characterizing its chemical composition, morphological structure, and evaluating its physical properties. Key findings indicate that the incorporation of RHA silicate improves the mechanical strength, thermal stability and overall durability of the bricks. This sustainable approach not only improve the properties of refractory bricks but also addresses environmental concerns by reducing agricultural waste. This study review works presented by previous researchers on extraction and characterization of rice husk ash silicate and their incorporation in refractory bricks. Also, it highlights the potential of RHA silicate as eco-friendly additive, encouraging further research and development in the field. The optimization on extraction method for high purity silica need to be investigated.
